Are legal carts diluted with thickeners?

Anonymous | September 09, 2019 | 2 0

I'm a ca licensed lab manager and wanted to shed light on something I think there may be a misunderstanding with the diluents and carts in general and what is regulated by the bcc.

Diluents are not regulated and it is not required to test for any of the popular diluents. You would not fail a compliance test for diluting carts.

Legal carts can have diluents. I think most do not in the legal market place but buying legal carts is not a full proof way of avoiding these unhealthy chemicals. Until the bcc regulates it labs won't look for it in a compliance test

But here’s the issue with this suggestion; legal carts are tested due potency. Adding a diluent would lessen that potency; therefore legal carts are less likely to have cuts and diluents?

If a cart looks extra thick and viscous and tests @ 30% there might be something else in there. I think that there might be some percentage of legal carts that have some diluent in there too tho. Like even if companies dilute just a little they are increasing there margins. The bcc really does listen to the feedback they get. Perhaps encourage the following to demand action by the bcc? That would be crazy, from a lab view we are down to do more testing but the bcc has to require it from the manufacturers and distros.

Every cart has a diluent. Distillate on its own will not move in a cart. And what do you think flavors them??? They’re all diluted or they wouldn’t be working.

If you don’t buy a shitty cart then raw distillate will work fine. I know because I’m hitting one right now and have been all day. Works great and taste great.

This is not entirely true. Today's legit cartridges will handle 85+% THC distillate without any diluent. Sometimes the diluent is simply the terp rich "sauce" fraction, and others reintroducing 5-7?nnabis derived terpenes is all that's needed. The fact of the matter is that I wouldn't use a cartridge that has any non-cannabis additives.

Yes legal carts are diluted, there are FDA diluents used. And when I carts gives a potent see percentage on it it means what the distillate tested at. So a legal cart can have 10% of a 87% testing distillate and the rest a type of cut and FDA medical grade Terpenes
